I forgot I had taken this photo until just now coming across it on my computer. I caught Stinker one day just chilling on this pillar, looking at who knows what. I also have no idea why there is an outside temperature gauge on that shelf, but now you know how cold the house is. [and why I'm always cold!]

Microchipping Your Pet

 

 One of the many things I wanted to accomplish while on my break from school was to update my cat's microchip information.  I took Stinker and Creeper to the vet in PetSmart to have them both scanned to see what came up. What I discovered is they had no information at all on their chips, just a 9-15 character strand associated with their chips. Why I was surprised is because I assumed Stinker would have either had information from the Humane Society where we got him, or Matt's [my ex] information since he bought him for me. For Creeper, I assumed he would have had my information since it was all requested when I had him neutered. Neither place led us to believe their chips would essentially have nothing on them until we took further steps. [I even called Matt and he was under the same impression] As I was leaving PetSmart I picked up a brochure on lost pets which mentioned something like only 1 in 5 pets are actually ever returned home. It made me wonder if a small cause for that was because more pet owners think what I did--that their pets were chipped and thus had a link back to them.

So how do you get your pet's chip connected to information on how to reach you? Well, you have to register the chip with a company that will store you and your pets information in a database. The people at PetSmart recommended using Petlink, and it does seem like the leading company. It's $20 to register your pet and that lasts the life of your pet. There is also a free pet registry located at FreePetMicrochipRegistry. Of course I did both. ;) If you're not sure if your pet's microchip is already registered with a company you can go to the AAHA site and look yours up. Don't have your pets microchip code? I've got you covered on that front too. Use this Scanner Lookup to find a scanner near you. It's super quick, they didn't even have to take my cats out of their crate to do it. Easiest vet trip they've ever had!

Stinker Stinker Stinker

So, I couldn't just take pictures of Creeper and not get some of Stinker as well! Since the beginning of this year Stinker has really filled out with his fur. We are having a pretty hot summer here in Georgia, and even though he's an inside cat, he still gets hot. Farewell are the days of him wanting to snuggle with me under the blankets. He now prefers to lounge on the cool wood floors or up in his cat perch. :( I'm hoping when it gets cooler he'll come back around.

I've been looking at getting him a rotating cat brush to help him get rid of some of the dead undergrowth, as well as to help prevent him from getting hair balls. Does anyone else have any tips on keeping fluffier cats cool in the summer?

Stinker says DEALWITHIT [know your meme]

Nibbler

Back in January I made a post introducing you all to Stinker. Well, now it's time to introduce you to Stinker's older sister--Nibbler!

Matt adopted Nibbler several months before I met him, but I've grown to love her...and she loves tolerates me too.   Nibbler isn't one to cuddle like Stinker does, but where she lacks in physical contact, she makes up with being one chatty catty! That was actually a driving force in why Matt adopted her--he loved that she liked to talk.  

Cute fact: I sneeze a lot, especially in the Spring time. So Nibbler has picked up on the fact that when I sneeze Matt says, "Bless You"...so now every time I sneeze around Nibbler she goes, "Meow Mew"--ahh, so cute! She also knows when I'm faking because she won't do it unless I really sneeze.

She also has retractable thumbs because she opens doors and drawers a lot. She's stealth though, so we've never seen these elusive thumbs. ;)  Oh, and if you close her out of the bedroom and she's hungry and wants you to wake up--you better believe this cat will body slam the door until you feed her. She don't mess around!

Plus she makes ridiculous faces...and has odd sleeping positions. Let me show you:

Stinker

Since you all will inevitably be seeing more of Stinker [one, two] in the future I thought I would give him a little introduction post! :D

Stinker came into our lives about 6 months ago when my boyfriend and I decided to get his other cat, Nibbler, a playmate. [she will get her own post soon] We went to the local animal shelter and as soon as we went into the kitty playroom Stinker immediately claimed us as his own. He would not stop jumping into our laps, purring up a storm, and chasing other kittens off.

He was actually named Everest at the animal shelter but neither of us thought he looked like he fit that name.  After several names we settled on the name Scout....which lasted all of about 3 days. He just wasn't a Scout either. He did remind of us of a skunk though because of the white stripe he has down his back and that is how the name Stinker came to be! Which we found out was a very fitting name for him because he is very mischievous and just a little stinker.

He is my little baby though. I love him to bits and am so glad we got him. :)  Enjoy the Stinker pic spam in 3...2...1...

This is the box we brought him home in. He LOVES it. He flipped it on it's side and it's his little man cave. He is in right now.

He loves to sit in the shower after one of us gets out.
