What I Wore: Felt Bow Tie

I'm all about shorts this year, which is a tad strange because I haven't worn shorts a lot in the past 8-10 years. I think it stems from the embarrassment I received from faculty in high school. I don't know if it's apparent from photos, or if I've ever mentioned my height on here, but I'm fairly tall. I'm 5'9", and have been pretty much since 8th grade.

Which means that shorts can look ...well, pretty dang short on me. It doesn't help that inseams keep getting smaller--I mean I've seen shorts boast about their "micro inseam" before! [these are not shorts I purchase, but are pretty hilarious to try on]

Anyway, so back when I was in high school faculty would frequently call me to the front of the class, or stop me in the hall, so that I could do the finger test. This test was how they determined if girls were wearing shorts, skirts, or dresses that were an inappropriate length for school. What you would do was place both arms straight down, and if the bottom of your garment was shorter than your pinky finger, you had to be sent home to change, or receive a demerit that could result in further disciplinary action if you were a repeat offender.

Luckily for me, I always passed the test, but the constant questioning of if I was dressed inappropriately or not made me feel ashamed of how I looked in shorts.
So for the most part, I just stopped wearing them altogether. But this year it's all about being proud of my body and wearing what I want---legs, meet the world!

Etsy Shop UPDATED!

My Etsy shop has been completed updated! Tons of new items I'm excited to now be offering. My new necklaces will be updated hopefully in the coming weeks and I'm also thinking about offering a detash section to unload some craft items I've been hoarding.

Book Fair!

I looooved when the Scholastic Book Fair would come to my school when I was younger. I would obsess over the catalog they gave to us prior so that I knew exactly what I wanted when the fair came.  I would always make sure I picked up a bookmark/pencil/eraser when I was in there too--it was just fantastic.

So when I saw Kate from Scathingly Brilliant had created an Etsy shop devoted to this wonderful memory, I was pretty excited!

In her new shop, called The Book Fair, you can buy a book fair  kit that includes:
- A fruit scented pop-a-point pencil
- A rainbow eraser
- Three bookmarks
- A handmade button with stickers
- A handmade reading list booklet
- A hand-stamped canvas carrying case
- A 1980's or 1990's paperback selected at random

I really want to get one for myself!
I love the illustration she made just for this--you can also get the illustration as a print, button, or bookplate. She even has some Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary books up there...I'm just sayin'. ;)

Taking a break while on break

These last two weeks I have been on break from school. I decided to step back from the computer for a bit so that I could tackle a long to-do list! This is only the 3rd time I've been on my computer since being on break--any Internet activity I've had outside of that has been through my phone.  It's been nice and I've gotten a good bit done. [there is still a lot to do, I made myself a pretty expansive to-do list]

Not everything on the to-do list was outside the Internet though. Craft show season is upon us and I'm really excited to share my new items, so one of the points was to have a HUGE SPRING SALE on my Etsy to clear way for new inventory.  Almost every single thing in my shop is currently on sale--most of the items 50% off!

I hope everyone has been enjoying this great weather we have been having! Warm days really motivate me, when I'm cold all I want to do is hibernate. heh

Wanted Wednesday 01/04/12

Sponsors edition!

The Log Lady Twin Peaks Embroidered Art

I love Twin Peaks-- and Amanda + James over at Flex Family Arts makes a whole ton of fun Twin Peaks embroidery!

I love the fabric and colors used in this fun pouch by Citlalli of Sew Beastly. I've been looking around for a fun pouch to store my pens, pencils, and whatnots at school.

What a dapper ow by Shannon of Shannon*Bearl! My mother is crazy for owls but I think I'd have to keep this one for myself. ;)

Now that it is finally getting cold I want every warm and knitted and/or crocheted!  This ear-warmer made by Chrissy of Whimsical Poppysmic would be great to have.

I already mentioned Elin of Elin Winblad was a great artist, and here's proof! I already own one of her  female portraiture paintings, but I think she might need a friend. ;)

Helvetica Shirts : Now available on Etsy!

My boyfriend is a typography junkie. So last year he decided he was going to take a screen printing class and learn how to make his own type tees! He made a few different type history shirts and sold them at local events around town. His Helvetica history t-shirts were definitely the most popular though and he's finally restocked and brought them to Etsy!  I wanted to help him get the word out, and I knew some of you would be interested. :D

*He also has typography greeting cards and Fringe mugs he's made on his Etsy as well.

New items in my shop!

I was going through my old rock collection from when I was younger when I came across these beautiful agate slices. I knew immediately they needed to be turned into necklaces! As I began playing around with them I thought how fun it would be to add some silver chain fringe to a few--it adds a nice touch  of movement.  I even kept a few for myself. ;)

Bunting Galore

I remembered last night that I never showed you guys any pictures from me being a vendor at the Indie Craft Experience Holiday show this past November. Mainly because I didn't take hardly any! oops :X
So all you get in this one of me and the booth I shared with my friend Megan Maude. This was right before doors opened on day one and I was tired, excited, hungry, cold, and hot--all at the same time. Which apparently makes my face do that. So okay, maybe I was mostly tired and hungry at that point, but the event ended up being A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! I've tried to volunteer for I.C.E. in some way ever since they started in 2005--so it was awesome being able to vend as well. I'm looking forward to seeing what new events I.C.E. comes up with this year and hopefully I can be a part of that too!

Which leads me to my next topic. BUNTING!  You might have noticed the pink and creme bunting hanging over our booth. I "pretty-pleased" Megan into making this for the booth and I think it turned out great. Now, I'm not much of a sewer but that doesn't stop me from my own bunting craftiness! In this post I mentioned I had been making a lot of new necklaces and I finally have them up on my Etsy!
Here is just a preview of some of them that are up right now. :)
